Acceptability of Six Candidate Groundcovers to Meadow Voles
نویسندگان
چکیده
Meadow vole food preferences were examined by means of a serie s of two day trials where pairs of plants were offered. Of the six plants tested, three (white clover, red clover, alfalfa) were found to be highly preferred by the voles, one (red fuscue) was acceptable, and two species (myrtle and crownvetch) were unacceptable. The results suggest that the undesirable groundcovers may be used as a deterrent to the establishment of meadow vole populations.

Impact of Spacing Behavior and Predation on Population Growth in Meadow Voles
Free-ranging, sexually mature meadow voles (Microtus pennsylvanicus) were tracked using radiotelemetry from June through August 1974, 1975 and 1978. Up to 20 voles were monitored concurrently to derive estimates of intraspecific spacing and natural predation in an effort to clarify processes involved in the 1imitation of population growth. The daily ranges of the males, as compared to those of ...

GALINDO, C., and C. J. KREBS. 1985. Habitat use and abundance of deer mice: interactions with meadow voles and red-backed voles. Can. J. Zool. 63: 18701879. In this study we investigated the influence of competitive interactions on the use of habitats and relative abundance of deer mice (Peromyscus maniculatus). If interspecific competition is influencing the habitat use and relative abundance ...

A study was undertaken to determine if meadow voles, Microtus pennsylvanicus, use habitats adjacent to apple orchards. Considerations were given to how extensively these areas were used, if at all, and if a bulldozed strip would control their movements between the orchard and adjacent border habitats. Trapping and telemetry data showed that meadow voles do use the adjacent border habitats exten...
متن کاملSpecies differences in anxiety-related responses in male prairie and meadow voles: the effects of social isolation.
Prairie (Microtus ochrogaster) and meadow voles (M. pennsylvanicus) are closely related species that differ in life strategy and social behaviors, and thus provide an excellent comparative model for the study of neuronal and hormonal mechanisms underlying behavior. In the present study using the elevated plus maze (EPM) test, we found that male prairie voles entered the open arms of the EPM mor...

Pine voles (Microtus pinetorum) and meadow voles (Microtus pennsylvanicus) were studied in a commercial apple orchard in the Hudson Valley of New York during April and May 1981. Selected voles were given miniature radiotransmitters and then tracked before and after herbicide application. A total of eight pine and meadow voles were tracked throughout the experimental period. H0m.e range size dec...
